The nominations process for SCAI is designed to assure the future strength and prosperity of the organization. Having a process that allows for open nominations, objective selection, and inclusive member involvement creates a system for electing the most qualified candidates who can represent the diverse membership and profession of interventional cardiology. We welcome nominations by any SCAI member colleague and self-nominations. Only active SCAI members can nominate a candidate for positions.
Positions currently being filled are: Secretary, Board of Trustees (2 positions), Associate Treasurer, and Nominating Committee (1 pediatric and 1 adult) At-large positions.
The Secretary serves a one-year term and then moves in succession each year to Vice President, President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. Each Trustee is elected to serve a three-year term. The Associate Treasurer is elected to serve a one-year, ex-officio term concurrent with the final year of the Treasurer. The Treasurer is elected to serve a three-year term. Nominating Committee members are elected to serve three-year terms.
All application forms will be reviewed against the list of qualifications for eligibility. Candidates may receive phone calls for additional informational interviews. A final Slate of Nominees will be put before SCAI membership for a vote to determine the incoming leadership. Announcements are made in March.

2. Qualifications and Responsibilities
Executive Committee Qualifications
- Must be SCAI Fellow, FSCAI or MSCAI member in good standing to serve as Trustee
- Interventional Cardiologist with minimum twelve (12) years’ experience
- FSCAI designation for minimum eight (8) years
- Ability to understand and develop strategic plan for Society
- Visionary approach to leadership
- Demonstrated service to SCAI on councils or committees as Chair
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships internally and externally
- Recognized for high personal ethics
- Willingness to commit substantial time to SCAI—reliable and responsive
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to act in a manner representative of the diversity of SCAI members
- Current or past SCAI Board of Trustees experience preferred
- Previous non-SCAI leadership experience preferred
- For Secretary: service as Chair of a previous committee for SCAI or membership on the Board of Trustees
- For Treasurer: service as a Chair of a previous committee for SCAI or on the Board of Trustees and prior financial experience
Executive Committee Responsibilities
According to the Bylaws the Committee shall have the following duties and responsibilities:
- During the intervals between the meetings of the Board of Trustees, to exercise such powers as may be delegated to it by the Board of Trustees, except that it shall not have the power to elect an applicant to any of the categories of membership;
- Make recommendations to the Board of Trustees as to matters of changes, extensions or revisions in Society policy;
- Receive and study reports of such committees as the Board of Trustees may direct;
- Act as an advisory body to the President;
- See that a record of its proceedings is maintained and reported to the Board of Trustees at such times as it requests; and
- Hold its meetings at such place or places as it may from time to time determine. In addition, the Committee may be called upon to confer at any time by the President of the Society.
- Hire, evaluate, and terminate the Executive Director and determine the duties of the Executive Director.
Responsibilities for Specific Executive Committee Positions
President
- Chairs Board and Executive Committee meetings and approves agendas
- Chairs the Annual Business Meeting and approves its agenda
- Represents the Society at official functions, conferences, and industry meetings and acts as the spokesperson for the Society
- Supports development efforts for SCAI
- May establish ad hoc Committees or Task Forces for specific The mandate of these committees expires when the term of office of the President is completed, unless renewed by the Board or the incoming president
- Reports at each Board meeting and at the Annual SCAI Business Meeting
- Works closely with the Executive Director in managing the operations of the Society
- Approximately 15 hours / week + travel approximately 6 times/year
PresidentâElect
- Acts as President in the event the President is unable to fulfill his or her duties
- Serves as a member of the Executive Committee
- In the Winter, makes all committee appointments for the following year and develops charges; may seek the advice of current committee leadership in selecting appropriate new committee leaders and members
- Performs other duties as required
- Approximately 5-7 hours / week + occasional travel
Vice President
- Serves as a member of the Executive Committee
- Conducts Leadership Orientation for new Board members
- Approximately 1-3 hours / week + occasional travel
Secretary
- Serves as a member of the Executive Committee
- Submits minutes of all Council meetings
- Ensures SCAI is organized and functions according to its Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws
- Approximately 1-3 hours / week + occasional travel
Treasurer
- Serves as a member of the Executive Committee
- Assures proper archival procedures of SCAI records, policies and procedures are followed
- Serves as ex-officio member of the Finance Committee
- Reviews annual tax statements of the Society
- Presents annual budget to the Board of Trustees
- Reports annually on the financial status of the organization
- Provides second signature for approval of contracts and checks over $25,000
- Approximately 1-2 hours / week + occasional travel
Board of Trustees Responsibilities, Election, and Composition (North America)
Qualifications
- Must be SCAI Fellow, FSCAI or MSCAI member in good standing to serve as Trustee
- Interventional Cardiologist with greater than ten (10) years’ experience preferred
- FSCAI designation for more than five (5) years preferred
- Demonstrated service to SCAI on councils or committees, preferably as Chair
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships internally and externally
- Recognized for high personal ethics
- Willingness to commit substantial time to SCAI – reliable and responsive
- Ability to act in a manner representative of the diversity of SCAI members
- Previous non-SCAI leadership experience appreciated
Responsibilities
- Communicate the Purpose of the Organization – Ensure that both members and non-members understand SCAI’s mission and purpose.
- Serve as a Resource – Engage in organizational planning, ask questions about ongoing and planned initiatives, and offer expertise and guidance.
- Financial and Budget Oversight – Ensure adequate resources are available and responsible dispensation of those resources. Help create connections and engage with potential donors and supporters; protect Society assets; evaluate resource use for value to the society; and approve annual budget. Monitor financial status, by reviewing financial statements that trustees will receive on a regular basis.
- Programs and Services Prioritization –Trustees decide among competing priorities to best achieve the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Public Relations – Maintain an ambitious and effective public relations program to ensure a healthy and positive public image for SCAI. Provide clearly articulated achievements of SCAI, including but not limited to contributions to patient health and support of membership.
- Conduct Self Evaluation – Conduct reviews of its own performance periodically, by assessing membership, organizational structure, financial management, annual meeting, education and strategic plan progress.
- Attend Meetings – Officers and Trustees are expected to attend the Annual Meeting at their own expense. SCAI will reimburse expenses related to attending Board meetings not scheduled during the Annual Meeting. Participation in conference calls is expected, unless there is a valid cause for exception.
- Approximately 3-5 hours / month + 2 face-to-face meetings annually
Nominations Committee
Qualifications
- SCAI member in good standing
- Interventional Cardiologist with greater than ten (10) years’ experience preferred
- FSCAI designation for more than five (5) years preferred
- Demonstrated service to SCAI on councils or committees, as faculty, or special representatives
- Broad-based knowledge of interventional community
- Recognized for high ethical standards and support for inclusiveness and diversity
Responsibilities
- Review and recruit candidates for slate of leadership to Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee
- Personally reach out to prospective candidates and candidates not selected
- Review and select Helping Heart Award Recipient (See last page)
- Approximately 3-8 hours / month January - March

3. Instructions for Submitting a Nomination
SCAI is working to create an even more inclusive and engaged member experience. As such, we are putting out this Call for Nominations for leadership positions in the Society. We welcome nominations by any active SCAI member colleague and self-nominations.
Application forms will be reviewed against the list of qualifications for eligibility. The Nominating Committee will then review all prospective candidates. Some candidates will receive phone calls for additional informational interviews.

- If you are nominating someone else:
- reach out to ask if they would like to be considered and “cc” them on all communications because he/she will be responsible for filling in some additional information
- if he/she accepts, send email to executiveassistant@scai.org with the following information: Your full name, your phone number, candidate’s full name, candidate’s email address and phone number, and the position to which you are nominating the individual
