    Membership Types, Eligibility, and Application Requirements

    Fellow-in-Training (FIT)

    Cost: Complimentary*

    • A recommendation letter from a program director, on official letterhead, detailing the dates of the training program and confirming that the candidate is in good standing

    Eligible to serve and vote on committees but not eligible to serve as Trustees or Officers or vote at meetings of members.

    Requirements: Candidates are physicians in good standing that have been accepted into or are participating in an accredited adult or approved pediatric interventional cardiology training program.

    *SCAI has graciously waived the membership fee.

    NOTE: If FIT members become board eligible or certified by an appropriate subspecialty board, they may advance to Fellow of SCAI (FSCAI). FIT members receive the online CCI journal only.

    Member (Physician)

    • A recommendation letter, on official letterhead, or completion of the online SCAI Membership Attestation form from a catheterization lab director or hospital administrator verifying the candidate’s unrestricted privileges at the hospital/institution in his or her area of expertise and the amount of time spent in the catheterization lab

    Eligible to serve and vote on committees but may not serve as Trustees or Officers. Entitled to one vote at meetings of members.

    Requirements: Candidates must have unrestricted privileges to perform in their area of expertise and either:

    1. Be eligible or certified by an appropriate certifying board (Internal Medicine, Radiology, Pediatrics, etc.) and be board eligible or certified by an appropriate subspecialty board, if one exists, in a primary specialty (Cardiology, Pediatric Cardiology) OR
    2. Have completed appropriate training in cardiac and/or endovascular angiography and intervention, or in a related field including noninvasive and have at least one full year or its equivalent in specialized training.

    Member (Scientist)

    • A recommendation letter, on official letterhead, or completion of the online SCAI Membership Attestation form from a superior indicating the candidate’s relevant work in the area of cardiac and/or endovascular angiography and/or intervention and has met the requirements.

    Eligible to serve and vote on committees but may not serve as Trustees or Officers or vote at meetings of members.

    Requirements: Candidates must have a doctorate or equivalent in a relevant scientific field and demonstrate that he or she actively works in cardiac and/or endovascular angiography and/or intervention.

    Candidates must meet at least two of the following criteria:

    1. Has made substantive contributions to the field relating to cardiac and/or endovascular angiography and/or interventions as evidenced by relevant research in that area as published in peer-reviewed national and/or international publications
    2. Has participated in at least ten national or international conferences as faculty
    3. Evidence of participation in the field by having held one or more leadership positions, such service as an officer, committee chair, trustee or committee voting member in a relevant professional society, certification examination contributor, or other relevant leadership position.

    Fellow of SCAI (FSCAI)

    Cost: USA/Canada: $808.50; International: $415

    • A recommendation letter, on official letterhead, or completion of the online Fellowship (FSCAI) Attestation Form from an active Fellow (FSCAI) or Master Fellow (MSCAI) verifying 1) candidate’s clinical experience 2) estimated volume of cases post-training and 3) good standing in the catheterization If one letter or the completed online form cannot contain this information, candidates may submit a second letter/completed form from a cath lab director or administrator providing the missing information.

    ADULT 

    • Has cardiovascular or endovascular board certification. In the absence of board certification, the committee may consider other evidence of academic achievement such as number of articles published, books or chapters written, presentations at significant meetings
    • ABIM/AOBIM certified in interventional cardiology and has recently graduated from a ACGME interventional cardiology fellowship program. If less than a year in practice, provide documentation from ACGME interventional training director affirming the candidate’s clinical experience. If more than a year in practice, provide documentation of at least one year in practice and performance of at least 100 interventions. If not ABIM/AOBIM certified, the candidate could still become a member if he or she has a cardiovascular or endovascular board certification, has five years in practice, and has performed a combined total of 2,000 diagnostic and interventional procedures
    • Has unrestricted privileges in the cardiovascular and/or endovascular catheterization laboratory, in good standing as a primary operator for five years in practice and performance of a combined total of 2,000 diagnostic and interventional procedures

     

    PEDIATRIC 

    • Has Pediatric Cardiology Board certification and at least one year of advanced fellowship training in interventional pediatrics
    • Has been in practice at least one year and has performed 75 diagnostic and/or interventional cases.
    • Has unrestricted privileges in the cardiovascular and/or endovascular catheterization lab and is in good standing as a primary operator
    • If the candidate does not meet the criteria above, the candidate is still eligible if he or she has four years in practice and has performed a combined total of 400 diagnostic and interventional procedures

    Requirements: Candidates must be nonphysicians involved in cardiac and/or endovascular angiography and/or intervention.

    Master Fellow of SCAI (MSCAI)

    Requirements: Candidates must meet all the criteria below:

    • Be an active FSCAI, currently involved in the field of cardiac and/or endovascular angiography and/or intervention as documented by appropriate support letters and other materials
    • Be a SCAI member in good standing for at least ten consecutive years before nomination
    • Have a minimum of twenty years of post-training professional experience in cardiac and/or endovascular angiography and/or intervention or contributions specifically to the field of angiography/intervention

    Senior Fellow

    Trustee for Life

    • Evidence of active participation in committees/working groups/Annual Scientific Sessions for over 15 consecutive years
    • Twenty years of experience in the advancement of the field of cardiac and/or endovascular angiography and intervention

    Eligible to serve on the Board of Trustees until resignation or inability to participate; shall retain the status of FSCAI of the Society except the right to serve as Officers; shall retain the right to serve and vote on committees or meetings of members.

    Requirements: Candidates must be an active Fellow, Senior, or Master Fellow, who, in the opinion of the members of the Credentials Committee, warrant special recognition and honor for their achievements or contributions to the Society and the profession, and are approved after a majority vote of a quorum of the Board of Trustees.

    Emeritus Fellow of SCAI

    • A letter from the candidate that demonstrates that he/she is retired and no longer practicing medicine

    Eligible to serve on committees but may not vote; invited to all official functions.

    Requirements: Candidates must be 1) active Fellows, Senior Fellows or Master Interventionalists 2) have been SCAI members for a minimum of ten years 3) retired from the practice of medicine 4) appointed by the Board of Trustees at the recommendation of the Credentials Committee.

    Consultant of the Society

      • A letter from a member of Board of Trustees or former President
      • A letter from current Fellow of SCAI
      • A letter from a colleague working in the same field

    Eligible to serve on committees deemed appropriate by the Executive Committee but may not vote on committees or serve as Trustees or Officers or vote at meetings of members.

    Requirements: Candidates must not be practicing in the field of cardiovascular catheterization and angiography, but whose efforts are intimately related to the field and whose expertise may be expected to further the objectives of the Society. The position of Consultant is upon special recommendation by the Credentials Subcommittee.
