SCAI Supports Expanded Coverage of Mitral Valve Procedures

SCAI joined with three other societies to support Medicare’s proposal to expand mitral valve coverage indications. We also expressed concern about the proposal to eliminate data collection. The elimination of a national coverage decision (NCD) for degenerative mitral regurgitation (DMR) is pushed to local coverage under Medicare Administrative Contractors’ discretion. These actions do not appear to be congruent with the current evidence and CMS precedent.
