The RUC – Getting “Closer to the Truth” in Reimbursement for Physician Services/Procedures
Dr. David Chan, Stanford University, has completed a study on the AMA’s RBRVS Update Committee, known as the RUC. His findings support that while there is some inherent bias with physicians engaging in the development of pricing recommendations for physician services and procedures, that the value-recommendations developed through the RUC process are of high quality. “There is this trade-off between bias and the quality of information,” Chan explained. “An unbiased but very imprecise price may be worse than a biased price that is closer to the truth.”
